Community Consumer Advisory Board
ACHCH's Community Consumer Advisory Board (CCAB) meets monthly and helps to maintain a strong patient voice within ACHCH. All members of the CCAB have received services from ACHCH and have experienced homelessness at some point in their lives. One member of the CCAB serves on ACHCH's governing board. October 23, 2018: ACHCH CCAB representation in UN Rapporteur Report on Informal Settlements
ACHCH CCAB members participated in and spoke at a news conference for the release of the United Nations Rapporteur on Informal Settlements report which highlighted Bay Area encampments as examples of world wide housing human rights violations and emphasized the strength of people asserting their human rights against a wave of criminalization. CCAB members read the Encampment Letter and shared the use of the Martin V. Boise decision as an avenue towards decriminalizing homelessness.
October 22, 2018: ACHCH CCAB Housing and Homelessness Election Forum
The ACHCH CCAB, along with the League of Women Voters, sponsored a discussion and forum on ballot issues of importance to people experiencing homelessness on Monday October 22nd from 11:30am-1:00pm at the ACHCH Offices at 1404 Franklin Street, 2nd Floor, Oakland. September 2018: ACHCH CCAB co-sponsors Homeless Voter Registration Drive Tuesday September 25, 2018
We are seeking volunteers to join us in the field to engage and empower homeless residents to register and vote in the November 6th election. Volunteer for a 2-hour time slot on Tuesday, September 25th to outreach to shelters, centers, meal sites, and encampments. Volunteers will also be provided with a 1-hour training before going out into the field. For more information click here.
June 2018: ACHCH CCAB sponsors 2018 Summer Solstice Celebration of the Strengths and Resiliency of People Experiencing Homelessness
On June 21, 2018, the ACHCH CCAB along with staff of the ACHCH Program and Lifelong Trust Health Center, celebrated the strengths and successes of people who are overcoming incredible barriers to gain housing, create community, and support our common mission of ending homelessness. This event honored six local heroes, featured lunch, music, and fellowship. For more information about the heroes and details, click here.
June 2018: ACHCH CCAB/ ACHCH Commission Open Letter to County Leadership
CCAB members, along with the ACHCH Commission, drafted and signed a letter to County leadership with suggestions and direction for providing leadership and adequate health and safety services for unsheltered people in Alameda County. View letter here.
March 25-28, 2018: ACHCH CCAB Sponsors All-In Listening Sessions in Alameda County
The ACHCH CCAB carried out three listening sessions as part of the Alameda County All-In Initiative to bring people experiencing homelessness, and local community allies, together to describe their experiences, and provide ideas to improve the health and lives of people experiencing homelessness. An open letter written by the ACHCH CCAB to the representatives of Alameda County regarding the housing crisis and their recommendations on how to work with people experiencing homelessness and local community allies in Alameda County. View letter here.
July 18, 2017: ACHCH CCAB Sponsors Focus Group for Homeless Bottle and Can Recyclers
A focus group carried out by the ACHCH CCAB at the request of Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle, to discuss their work, health, and lives in relation to efforts to reform bottle recycling laws on a state level.
December 2016: ACHCH CCAB Carries out All-In Listening Sessions
During the week of December 5th, the ACHCH CCAB carried out three listening sessions as part of the Alameda County All-In Initiative. A total of 46 people experiencing street homelessness participated at three different listening sessions in Hayward and Oakland. The ACHCH CCAB members were impressed and encouraged by the courage and strength of the participants, and pleased by their willingness to speak out. View the informational poster of the event.
