Bay Area Media Organizations Coordinate Coverage of Homelessness

Last month, many Bay Area media organizations coordinated coverage of homelessness. While the effort centered on San Francisco, Alameda County received attention as well. Coverage included a San Francisco Chronicle Op-Ed dated 6-30-16 by former HCSA Director Alex Briscoe (PDF). Damon Francis stressed the importance of federal funding in an Associated Press story: "It's really very hard to solve with local budgets, and I think that's the real challenge of local journalism," he said. "We do need those federal dollars back to change these rental markets."
